Buckle, I've found the best way to "diet" right is not to deprive yourself, just cut the amounts you consume.  Also, I lost 20 lbs quicker and have kept it off just by cutting out bread and desserts.  The family won't suffer going without bread and sweets, either.  Now that I'm at the weight I like I can have some bread and dessert, just not everyday.  Common sense is the best tool.
